How did Sky build their customer base? If you sign up to Sky today, you still get a free box, don't you? I suspect it would probably be fairer to say that a lot of people have been attracted by the advertising campaign, but then realised they can get a box for free either from their existing ISP or by switching to TalkTalk or BT. That is, however, a rather cynical way of looking at it. Of course that last figure is likely to be quite small, giving rise to comments on these forums about how it is really a failure because people aren't have buying the boxes in significant numbers. Add BT's base to that, plus those boxes that have been bought from retailers. TalkTalk have just announced that they have signed up their half millionth subscriber. There has been a very extensive advertising campaign since launch. I am not so sure that most people will have little idea of what YouView entails. If you are looking for a Humax youView - check Argos or a Richersounds. The answer from Virgin was a high user base in the area we live - yet iplayer on the Humax hasn't had a problem at all. The Humax is lightning fast and iplayer works without buffering - the Tivo would buffer and sometimes crash. Contract is up in the next couple of months and Tivo will be thrown out of the mix. We currently have Virgin and their bloody awful Tivo box which always appeared to be about to break if you pushed a button -there was a delay between the press and the box performing a task. However the Argos website shows the 1010 but the description is for the 1000. I think it was the last one in Argos across Nottinghamshire. It's essentially the same box as the 1010, but without the new front panel. I managed to buy a Humax DTR-1000 from Argos for £189 a few days ago. So whilst it was pleasing initially to see it in Tesco, it's still too expensive and is not presented well. On the other hand the nearby Humax Freeview HD PVRs have all that displayed prominently, so you can't miss it. Most people even now will have little idea what "Youview" entails. The retail box isn't going to attract many casual buyers because all you see unless you pick it up and examine for small print is "Humax DTR-T1010" and "Youview" with the "Freeview HD PVR" tucked away out of sight. Unfortunately, the price is £270 which is about £40 more than the Humax Freeview HD PVRs on the same shelf. I have probably left some things we have tried already out of the above, but can advise what has been done if anybody has any ideas on where we can go with it.Just to add to this thread that yesterday, I saw the Humax DTR-T1010 in my local Tesco Extra for the first time (it's never been in the nearest Asda). We have young children and operating the TV smoothly is really important!!!Īny suggestions much appreciated. The other products have no issues with the remote at all. Something in our house must be interfering with the YouView box infra-red. This is so frustrating, as it has operated for a long time with no real problem. Which to me confirms the box isn't locking up. If you use the buttons on the top of the YouView box, while you are having trouble with the remote, you can scroll/select etc as normal. In fact the YouView remote operates the TV absolutely fine, it only has trouble operating the YouView box. These all work with their own respective remotes no problem at all. We have an older circa 2007 Panasonic 42in Plasma, an Apple TV (circa 2013), and a Panasonic DVD player. I am hoping an expert will see this and be able to throw some pointers our way. I feel there is something in the house causing interference somehow, but am at a loss to what it could be. They are saying there is not much else they can do - which I think is awful service for loyal customers. We have had BT supply 3 remotes and 1 new box but still the issue persists, pretty much as soon as they are replaced. There is no particular pattern to this - it can be day or night, house lights on/lights off, just after turning on or it being on for a long time before playing up. It gets so bad you feel like throwing the remote at it!! But over the past 18 months we are having major problems getting the remote control to operate the box reliably. We have had this box, and the previous gen box, for approx 6 years all in all.
